Road Trip Part 3 – Shelburne Farms

Day 4 – We started making our way east, stopping at several places along the way that could be found in my 1000 Places to See Before You Die book.  The first stop was Shelburne Farms, a very neat farm with lots of acreage, several animals to be petted, and supposedly a really cool inn on the property.  We didn’t have enough time to tour the inn ourselves, but Patricia Schultz raves about it in her book.

When we got to Shelburne Farms, we purchased a ticket to the Children’s farm and hopped aboard the wagon shuttle to get there.

IMG_7217This pig was due to have her babies that very day we were there.  I’m pretty sure this is how I looked at 40 weeks too.  Why do they not offer mud baths for women in labor? 🙂

IMG_7230Next, we drove north to South Burlington, VT and stopped by the famous Al’s French Frys there.  IT WAS GOOD! Then, we stopped for some more health food; the AMAZING Ben & Jerry’s. I have steered clear of this ice cream in the past because of its price, but let me tell you…no more…this stuff is the best of the best.  And the ice cream sample from the tour, fresh from the factory….YUM.

IMG_7233I scream, you scream, we all scream for……!?! (See next photo for answer)

IMG_7234After a fun day of petting animals and tasting fries and ice cream, we were tired! Eating is hard work, people.  We ended Day 4 at our hotel in Lancaster, NH. Coos Motor Inn – a very clean and surprisingly inexpensive hotel.

To be continued… 🙂

Road Trip Part 2 – Adirondack Mountains

After we left the Catskills on Day 2, we drove north towards the Adirondack mountains.  On our way, we made a stop at the beautiful Saratoga Springs Congress Park for lunch and duck-feeding.  Silly me did not get pictures of this park, but here is a picture from alloveralbany.com.

After lunch, we drove to our campsite at Medcalf Acres in Schroon Lake, NY.  Here’s our home for the next two nights.

IMG_7168Little B liked to toss things in the river.  We had to go after trucks, spoons, pens, and the frisbee twice. That crazy kid.

IMG_7185I don’t know how he carried B up and down this mountain.  I had difficulty just getting myself up the thing. Also note the bug spray in tow…very important!

IMG_7187Day 3 (cont.) – After our hike, we went to Lake Placid for lunch at Lake Placid Pub & Brewery (a great place to take kids – they have a kids room with a ton of toys!) and a quick driving tour.

Day 4 – Ate our cereal, packed up the car, and headed out on the road again.

Road Trip Part 1 – A packed car and the Catskills

IMG_7124

Last week, we left for what would be a week-long, jam-packed, long-distance-driving, buggy, and completely awesome vacation.  We took MANY pictures so I will be breaking them up into several different posts.

Day 1 – Packed up the car and left after work on a Friday.  We drove to Fishkill, NY (Hudson Valley region) and stayed the night at the Hampton Inn there.

Day 2 – Drove to the Kaaterskills Falls trail in the Catskills region.  We hiked the short trail to the waterfall, played in the water a little, then quickly hiked back to arrive at our car just in time for a major downpour.
